Partners in Crime follows the story of Gaynor Tilby as she navigates the challenges of growing up deaf in a hearing world.
The book, released in August, highlights the role of hearing dogs and the author's work as a probation officer in the Criminal Justice System. "Well-meaning professionals focused on my disability instead of my ability. Classroom bullies left a lasting legacy that deafness should be hidden," said Ms. Tilby from Millom.
In 2012, Ms. Tilby was paired with Indigo, a hearing dog trained by the charity Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. She no longer faces her disability alone with Indigo by her side.
According to her, Indigo's positive deaf identity, charming personality, and ability to spread joy have made a significant difference in her life. She was inspired to write this book because of the many funny stories she has experienced with him and his unwavering support during difficult times.
Ms. Tilby will sell copies of Partners in Crime at the Millom and Broughton show on August 26, with all proceeds benefiting Hearing Dogs for Deaf People charity.
